Lawmaker donates classrooms to school, as clerics canvass for emulation By: Segun Adeleye || Correspondent, Abeokuta Daily Independent Newspaper || 26th Nov 2014 || Page 44 Clerics across the faiths have canvassed for a diverse approach to rescue the decaying infrastructure in public primary and secondary schools in Ogun East Senatorial District of the state, just as they want large-hearted individuals, religious organisations and corporate world to emulate the Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Gbenga Kaka. The Pastor in charge of Baptist Church, Imodi-Ijebu, in Odogbolu Local Government area of the state, Abimbola Oduyeru and the Chief Imam of Imodi, Alhaji Mufutau Yekeen, made the appeal at the inauguration of a block of three classrooms built and donated by the Adegbenga Sefiu Kaka (ASK) Foundation to the Moslem Primary School, over the weekend. The Foundation, which has education, health, revolving interest-free loans as part of its running programme, also inaugurated another block of classrooms at Zamurat-ul-Islamiyyah Primary School in Ojumele ,Makun-Sagamu, after which a foundation for another block was made at St’ Paul Primary School in Ijoku in the same town. The Chief Imam, who led a battery of other Alfas and Imams to pray for the donor before presenting two copies of Quran to him, said the record “At my disposal has it that the man before us here has personally donated 16 blocks of classrooms across the nine local governments area in Ijebuland, so, what are we waiting for. He added, “That means all of us has to brace up: religious groups, kind hearted individuals and the corporate world”, a position which was shared by Pastor Oduyeru who advised “honour should be done by churches and mosques to people who genuinely contribute to the larger society”. At the twin inauguration, where the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Prince Segun Adesegun lauded the intervention of Senator Kaka, saying the decision to name the blocks of classrooms being built by him almost two year ago after selfless and disciplined individuals in the host communities was to motivate the youths. He suggested that attention should be shifted from giving honours to “money bags whose source of wealth cannot be traced to any dignified source, but to the man who can truly qualify as a role model on account of integrity, Spartan life-style, self-respect and dedication to serving mankind with all they possess. “I challenge our leaders across the faiths to cue into the vision of ASK Foundation, which has taken it upon itself to rigorously seek out men and women of honour to name landmarks after and our youths would seek genuine models and mentors and not impostors.” He named the Imodu School after Pa Christian Kolawole Sotimehin, better known as “Ogbon Logba” for what he described as the innovation of repairing any electrical and mechanical equipment without any training whatsoever since the days of the colonial masters. On the other hand, the Ojumele-Makun block was named after a Zikist and later- day Awoist, 80 year old Pa Allison Balogun, whom Kaka described as a disciplined practitioner of unparalleled ideological belief and simple Islamic life-style. He called on all latter day politicians to emulate Balogun, who came with his immediate and extended family, by sticking to ideological belief instead of jumping from party to party. Refusing to name the beneficiary of the block of classrooms at St’ Paul Primary School in Ijoku-Sagamu, Kaka explained that the building would be named after “an outstanding legal luminary, community leader, custodian of culture and yet epitome of simplicity, saying “he is someone who has turned perceived disability and challenge into opportunities and lives with it elegantly to the envy of the rest of us”. The clerics, Ogun State Deputy Governor and Kaka urged the teachers and pupils to put the facilities to the best use, as the donor bemoaned the lack of maintenance culture in the land. He further assured that his electioneering promise to deliver four projects to each of the nine council areas of the senatorial district would be met before the end of his Senatorial life next year. He faulted the unending construction of model schools by the state government and the “heavy cost” to the people, saying that that no model school could be better than the likes of Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro, Abeokuta Grammar School, Adeola Odutola College and Mayflower, amongst others. He submitted that what any “cost and time-conscious” government should have done is to deploy resources into uplifting existing model schools. dailyindependentnig/2014/11/lawmaker-donates-classrooms-school-clerics-canvass-emulation/
