Lawn. That stretch of green around our homes. Weve been doing it - TopicsExpress

Lawn. That stretch of green around our homes. Weve been doing it for 60 years now. It didnt start with the people but with developers. The word Lawn comes from Launde which is middle english for a glade or open area with few trees, perhaps with rolling hill features. This is a beautiful sight most would agree. It was also the site of many battles, because out in the open is where ancient battles were often fought. I thought laundry came from this word the clothes you dry over the lawn but this may not be the case. The reason grass is kept low cut is because it is fashioned after common pasture land where herds were grazed in small towns with limited space. this was a nearly public and shared land. Fences were forbidden in the first suburbs. I noticed some lawns use something called rye grass and winter rye. Im not sure but isnt this wheat? If it were to grow, might we not make a cheese burger bun out of this? Then we would no longer have a useless lawn but would have a garden perhaps. I hope you enjoyed my quick notes about lawns.
