Lawn overhaul! Complete. Killing all current grass and growing new! Wish the web had a step-by-step guide. No, they dont! Close but no medals. Here is what I compiled. Any thoughts from experts or experience? GET SOIL TESTED for ph or other deficiencies! 1. water lawn for 7 days prior to Roundup 2. Dont mow for 7 days prior to Roundup 3. Spray Roundup, wait 5 days to see if it all died. If not, hit the spots again 4. Wait 5 days and rent XX (should it be a light tiller, or a vertical Power Rake, slit seeder, aerator, etc) to clear all dead weeds, grass, thatch, etc 5. put down any required conditioners (phosphate, etc) or should this step take place at the same time as spraying roundup. Different sites say different things. 5. Put down seed & fertilizer at the same time 6. If not using a slit seeder or Power Rake, rake in the seeds in 1/2 inch 7. Water lightly 2 times daily for 15 days. Now, I have questions because the above is all a summary that DIXIE compiled based on a zillion different sites as no site gives a summary like above. A. If I dont wait the 5 days to hit it again will the few remaining weeds get choked out by good grass. In a perfect world, Id have 3 or 4 weeks to do it right but Mike has an HOA and doesnt want his yard to be dirt for weeks on end! I can do mine twice... he probably cant. B. What all is needed to rent. Some articles say to rent a power rake first. Then rent an aerator, then rent a slit-seeder, then rent a lawn roller. Well HECK, thats probably $500 in rentals. C. ??? is it required to have straw or some type of mulch to keep the soil moist? If so, does that step immediately follow laying the seed? D. Do I need a roller to pack down the seeds into the soil? Or can I just use the back of my rake.
