Lawrence Foster had a midterm earlier this week. He had to create a fictional character to tell a story about who he created and how this character lived. He wanted to help people who were young in the classroom; and, he had created a character that goes through what most young people are going through in college. I am merely copying a pasting the essay. I hope all enjoys the midterm assignment. He said, It took about 12 hours to make. Sara does not only want to make her parents proud; but, she also has a vision for excellence. She doesnt only want to have a career, but, she wants to do something that would make a difference or make a major impact in this world. She was thinking about what her parents do, but, it doesnt fit her very well. She is quite unique and she has special talents. Let’s immerse ourselves within the journey of Saras declaration of major right after a brief excerpt of who her parents are and how do they influence Saras journey significantly. Who are Saras parents? Jenna Dolinski-Cohen (it’s a Jewish name, Google the name to find out its meaning) is a business woman who works long hours. She is much more determined than ever to make her mark in the business she is in. She makes much more money than her husband. Benjamin Dolinski-Cohen is a male nurse who works nine to five, Monday to Friday. Jenna does much more for the house than Ben; and, if he could only know how much Jenna does, he will appreciate her even more than he does now. Sometimes he just doesnt notice things, like bills and other serious things; however, when it comes to showing Jenna some support when he needs to, he doesnt disappoint her because he is very consistent at that. How Benjamin and Jenna raised Sara? Well, they did the best they could. Jenna works late nights and doesnt spend much time at home. Ben spends much more time with Sara, but, he has a hard time accepting that Sara is growing up. He still gives Sara the same allowance he had always given her when she was a teenager which is two hundred dollars a month. They failed to prep Sara for her SAT and ACT tests in high school. There were perhaps too busy. They refused to pay for new cars and gadgets because they are trying to teach her how to be independent and to get the things she want by getting a job and paying for it herself. She doesnt need a guy to support her because she has it handled because of the way her dad raised her. However, Sara does a lot of things to please her dad instead of looking into who she is and what does she really want. She never entertained that thought until she had enrolled inside Candace Roe class at Solano Community college. Her parents are proud that she is going to school; but, what they dont know is, she doesnt know what she wants to do after she leaves college. This is her first day in the class and by the end of this semester she might have an idea, perhaps, on what she wants to do in college. How Sara childhood influenced her? Well, when Jenna was home she would go shopping with Sara in an attempt to connect with her. It doesnt always work out that way though because they will find something to disagree with and they will come home annoyed. Despite getting new clothes, all Sara ever wanted and it is still what she wants is indeed, her mother,” because she works way too often and she doesnt come home to spend time with her very often. As a result, she would try to do well in school in order to get her mothers attention and her dads approval. Sara is the only child, and she likes it that way. Sara is very driven despite Jennas obsession with the color pink. She had decorated Saras room with multiple shades of pink and that is why Sara loves pink. Now that she is in college now, she has an apartment and a job at Red Lobster. She attends class as a full-time student at Solano Community College with a morning coffee in her hands. I dont believe anyone should be around her without her morning coffee. It would be bad news. Sara keeps herself busy like her mother and enjoys a great joke like her father. Being raised in the Dolinski-Cohen household had caused her to be confident; and derogatory comments aimed at her gender doesnt bother her. Like take for instance, “like a girl,” doesnt mean anything poorly to her; what that comment means to her is to do anything better than a boy. She will throw the baseball much harder than a boy. She will also throw the football farther than a boy and out run those if they are playing flag football. She does not only know how to rumble with the boys because she also knows how to be elegant and attend meetings that requires her to dress up as a princess. Most of her dresses are light colors like lavender, purple, teal, green and “Pink!,” of course. Sara is so busy she doesnt have much time for her to unwind. She works seven hours and thirty minutes five days a week to pay for her apartment that is twelve hundred dollars a month. Twenty dollars in tips are doing little to assist in her quest to be independent. She had left her parents’ house because she couldnt stand her dad babying her; nor could she stand having her dad not allowing her to try new things. These are a few of the reasons why she left. Now, her parents are proud of her despite her dad still giving her the same old two-hundred dollar allowance as always. It is annoying, but, it does help pay for the rent and other expenses. She has about six classes, and she has to go to the bookstore and spend hundreds of dollars on books alone. This doesnt include the task sheets and tests that will be used much later in class. While attending classes before, she had learned that it takes more than two years to get an associate degree. People were telling her it takes about three to four years to get the degree. (This is according to {edsource.org/}) She was also told in order to get the degree in two years, she has to take more than twelve units each semester and she cannot skip the summer semester in order to take the classes that were not offered during the fall and spring semester. (communitycollegereview/articles/606) Then, she decided to think for a while and what she thought? When I do find something to get a degree in, will it be enough to have a steady job? (fortune/2012/11/20/why-college-grads-are-heading-back-to-community-college/) Story teller will make an announcement... (Story teller could be Lawrence or Jasmine) If anyone doesnt know if their career will grow, then, they should check out onetonline.org. It will show not only the growth of the particular field in question, but also the titles that employers use in order to search for any online or local position. (Now, get back to the story) Sara cannot make up her mind on what she wants to major in; so, she is taking only the general education classes to make up her mind. When Sara was talking to her classmates, they were telling her that the moment she gets into college she should immediately take courses like career planning, and develop a business relationship with the transfer center representatives as well as keep communicating with their academic counselors. “We should volunteer to help the less fortunate, join clubs and do activities that the college offers in order to not only increase our networking skills (positive college activities look great on a resume), but it also narrows down the activities we enjoy to do the most. Once we are able to see what we like to do the most, then, it would be much easier to declare a major to pursue. (Make sure the major has a bright outlook on onetonline.org/ .) Sara volunteers and learned how fortunate she is. (Any story teller can add anything in this paragraph or examples of how fortunate she is will be as follows; these are merely ideas.) Sara has parents who taught her how to not depend on anyone and to do things on her own. Sara doesnt have to live off her parents money because she works and get paid nine dollars an hour at Red Lobster while attending school. She has plenty of clothes and she decides to donate to thrift stores in order for people to afford great clothes. The college had a program that helps people who are bullied and Sara volunteers. She wants to help those who are not fortunate to keep healthy relationships due to bullying. Sara dislikes injustice and she is passionate whenever a person is mistreated because of ignorance. She will fight off a guy in order to keep a person safe. She fights like a girl! (Which means she hits harder than a boy) And, she doesnt play with anyone who uses force to ruin anyones day; she will handle it no matter what happens. Whoever stated that females are weaker than men is completely and utterly wrong. Women are better communicators, friends and are much better at identifying things at first glance. (forbes/sites/peggydrexler/2013/07/15/women-need-more-than-confidence-to-succeed-they-need-ambition/) Here is an excerpt from an article: “Its long been assumed that women are more inclined towards language and communication, and now they finally have the research to prove it. Scientific American has published new findings that show that females have higher levels of activity in the language center of their brains than males. The article states: In a classroom setting, it implies that boys need to be taught language both visually (with a textbook) and orally (through a lecture) to get a full grasp of the subject, whereas a girl may be able to pick up the concepts by either method.” (popsugar/love/Women-Actually-Better-Communicators-1096604) If Sara notices anyone being mistreated she will be the first to stand up faster than any male. A male will typically stand up when a person is physical but they are timid when it is only verbal. However, a female will defend if the verbal content is hurtful and mean. They will protect those who they connect with or people who they see are in trouble regardless of the danger. Sara doesnt like to see great people mistreated; and, so Sara had decided to be a lawyer. She will defend those who don’t have a voice and fight for them. No one should be mistreated. Everyone should have some type of assertiveness regardless of what is stereotypical of a female that were shared years ago. A female is strong, a female makes lemonade out of sour situations; they are confident and able to do whatever guys are capable of doing. We just need confidence and ambition to do what we set our minds on. (According to Forbes which was shared much earlier) In Candace Roe class, she is learning the skills on how to set a goal and go after it wholeheartedly without any boundaries that we put on ourselves. Let’s be the example that people read about and go for things we enjoy doing without any self-imposed restrictions. What is stopping us from doing something that we will enjoy doing as a career? I hope the answer is we ourselves because that can change over time with self-confidence and ambition. These qualities are what Sara has because of her parents, particularly her dad. Her dad was the biggest influence in her life because he gave her the confidence to do whatever she put her mind to. “Men dont underestimate the impact we have on our children.” In this story, the father had the biggest impact because he was there much more often. The mother was the person who paid the bills because she made much more money. When a female makes more money, it does not make us less of a man. It makes us the opposite; it makes us supportive and much more of a man because when we are married, we are a team and it doesnt matter who makes more money. What really matters is how supportive we are with our teammate.
