Laya about 15,000 feet above sea level: You can see at least two to three truck loads of empty beer bottles and cans is seen near the Gewog Canteen area. These empty bottles and cans are left by local communities and visitors. If you estimate 3 truck load of bottles and cans is around 40,000 to 50,000 empty beer bottles (each truck load carries around 17,000 bottles). This amount has been collected over 5 to 6 years over time. Something has to be done soon otherwise in few years time it will be more than 100,000 empty bottles. Need for awareness is important amongst the local community an the visitors. Today we are looking for fund to transport these empty bottles to Punakha to be sold to some of the scrap dealers. This whole operation would cost about Nu:1.0 million. The maths can be calculated in following methods: Each mule would carry about 60 empty bottles i,e, 835 mule load @ 0.8 million plus plus.
