Layla Al-Attar was an Iraqi artist and director of the Iraqi National Art Museum. Layla was known for her beauty and for her incredible paintings. On June 27, 1993, President Bill Clinton ordered a U.S. missile attack on Baghdad in retaliation for an alleged assassination attempt of George Bush Senior even though the allegations were not proven. Layla and her husband were killed that night and their daughter was left blind and without her parents. To this day, Laylas daughter has never received an apology from the U.S. government. Layal, a character in 9 Parts of Desire is based on this famous artist.
