Laynee got her helmet yesterday and so far has done pretty well - TopicsExpress

Laynee got her helmet yesterday and so far has done pretty well with it. She is going to sweat a lot while wearing it, after 10mins last night sweat was dripping down her neck! They did say would probably have to have a fan blowing on her at night. I ordered some cute decals for it but cant put them on until next Friday when we find out if she can get air holes drilled in in. The cool thing about her helmet is that its custom made for her, not just one that every kid can get. Trying to get the scan done for the helmet was awful! She had to sit perfectly still, kinda hard to explain that to a 3month old! So after 2.25hrs and many scans later we were finally able to get the perfect scan! Ive attached what looks a manikin head, thats actually laynees head after the scan and what was used to make her helmet. If you look at the right side of her scan you can see that it its rounder, thats because her brain needed somewhere to grow. So since the left side was closed already it started taking over the right side. In pictures that we have taken you cant really see thats happening but if you would look down at her you could see it in her forehead as well. The right side was bulging while the left was flat. This has also caused her ears to be off some. But after a year of wearing the helmet she should have an almost perfect head! And if her ears are still off or still has some what of a bulge or she still doest have the perfect round head everyone wants, she will still be perfect to us. She will have to wear it for 23hrs a day but will work up to that amount over the next 8 days. So yes, every night she gets a bath, helmet cleaned and 1 hr of free time. Ive been reading from other moms that its hard for them to sleep in. Hopefully it wont take her long since she has been sleeping through the night for over a week now. Here are some pics from when she got fitted yesterday, from this morning (yes she fell asleep wearing it), her scan and a couple more from the hospital. If you get tired of me posting about it, dont read it! This next year is going to be a challenge and I plan to talk about all of it! To me, I believe it will help me to cope with what is going on and also keep my family is n the loop of how shes doing.
