Leading on from the Catch and Release thread from yesterday, I thought I would put together a summary of the status of Scotlands big three salmon rivers as of today. It is not good reading. Particularly when we consider the 5 year averages quoted include 2013 which itself was a terrible year but still far better than 2014 so far. If this trend continues I have serious concerns for the future of our quarry. For those who think it is OK to take one for the table please look carefully at these figures. How many anglers would it take a one for the table policy to completely diminish, for example, the Dee season returns? How many fishers have had a cast on the Dee this year for a less than 3000 fish return? A lot more than 3000 I can tell you. So dont just sit back, chap a fish and blame the nets. If you kill a fish you are as much a part of the problem as the nets, the seals, the dolphins, the birds..........there is absolutely no difference whatsoever other than we are the only group of predators who have the choice to make a conscience decision. We can contribute to the survival of a fantastic species and we will feel better about ourselves for it.
