League Update - Sunday 10th November (ASA vs AL KHOYOUL) This was a game that ASA needed to take 3 points from in order to reestablish themselves at the top of the league, and with that in mind, the overall result of 7-1 delivered the win that both our players and fans craved. Starting line up: Yahya, Hikmat, Samir, Ghadi, Haissam, Ali A., Firas, Youssef, Ali.H, Rami J., Aboudi On a more serious note though, AL KHOYOUL were caught off guard at kick off and within 30 seconds a long ball played in behind their CBs found the quick thinking Aboudi and his lighting pace had him through on goal for a 1-1 with their keeper before a rash challenge by one of their defenders brought him tumbling down. Now in accordance with the rules of football, their defender was the last man and by obviously impeding a clear goal scoring opportunity was due to be sent off, and such was the case, the referee brandished the RED CARD and KHOYOUL were down to 10 men before they could even kick a ball. From an observers perspective, this sort of situation is seen as ideal and will allow for plenty of opportunities and a handful of goals to celebrate. People may presume that my expectations are very high with the following comments, but at ASA we expect certain standards of football and the excellence we thrive to attain was far from achieved today. The only explanation for this would be to say that our team decided to take their foot off the peddle after seeing their opponents go a man down, and this meant that their game focus and mentality was affected and the clean easy on the eye possession style of football we are used to watching did not take place often enough. We wasted chances and smiles and individual challenges started taking place on the field as our forward players decided to start an internal goal scoring competition instead of concentrating on the clinical passing and moving style that everyone has grown to love and enjoy, and had we kept to the game strategy and style of football then this game could easily have ended 18-0 SUBS: Nidal for Ali A., Karim H. for Ali H., and Taymour for Hikmat One of the main positives from todays match apart from the 3 points and going 2 points clear at the top of the table, is that our young substitutes had the chance to prove themselves on the pitch with their first taste of competitive league action and their performances were admirable :) We play ANSAR next SUNDAY and we will need the team to recreate their high levels of excellence and focus if we want to win that game and press ahead with our ambition to win the league title this year. I have been critical of the team today, and that is because at this stage and level our biggest enemy will be arrogance and overconfidence. TIME TO FOCUS BOYS, YOUR FATE LIES IN YOUR OWN HANDS AND YOUR PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE FROM NOW ON WILL BE THE KEY TO YOUR SUCCESS. Rani Ghaziri
