League leaders Eastbourne Borough were dealt a blow yesterday evening when their scheduled Skrill South fixture with Farnborough was postponed. Farnborough are yet to play a game this season as their opening four matches were all postponed. They were suspended by the Conference for missing a deadline to pay a £100,000 membership bond by just 31 minutes. It was hoped Farnborough would open their campaign this Saturday at Eastbourne Borough but it is understood the club failed to comply with to certain conditions that were set out for them by the league. A statement on the Farnborough website read, “Despite the best efforts of the club to satisfy the Terms of Membership criteria by 5pm today (Thursday) to allow this weekend’s match against Eastbourne Borough to go ahead, the Football Conference have confirmed that the match has been postponed. “Following the meeting last Wednesday the “newco” Boro FC were given a 14 day deadline to comply with all terms of membership, with agreement that if these terms could be met ahead of this deadline that the clubs season could commence. “The club can confirm that it has submitted the relevant documentation to the Football Conference for their approval. “The club are looking to arrange a friendly for this Saturday and details will be posted once confirmed.” Farnborough exited administration last week and boss Spencer Day was optimistic earlier in the week that the match would go ahead. He said, “We think we are nearly there, we are ready to press the button. We desperately want to play at the weekend, as do Eastbourne, and we feel we are close.” A statement issued to Eastbourne Borough from the Conference on Wednesday read, “Farnborough FC has been given, and has accepted, a schedule of items with which it must comply by 5pm on Thursday September 5. “It has said it wishes to commence its fixtures on August 31, in which case the board has stated it must be compliant by 5pm on Thursday August 29.”
