Leahs ANC (cells that fight off infection) took another dip again. - TopicsExpress

Leahs ANC (cells that fight off infection) took another dip again. They were at 330 today. They need to be above 500 to be in the safe zone and above 1000 to be totally in the clear. Anyhow, because of the low count she needed another dose of G-CSF. This med stimulates her bone marrow and helps her produce more neutrophils. The doctor said her chimerism (the way the measure the donor cells) is still hanging out at about 13-15%. As they continue to wean the steroids, if this number doesnt change, Leah will continue to need weekly doses of G-CSF. Eventually we would give them by injection rather than IV after her line is removed. This may not sound like good news but it is. The doctor even said it himself I consider this a victory because she is much better off than she was before transplant. And he is right. She is healthier. And before transplant she NEVER responded to G-CSF. He said that time will tell but sometimes he sees this kind of chimerism and then months later it does start to climb. The higher percentage of donor, the less aid she will need.
