Leaked CXC exam papers: accused found not guilty [ By : Nikita Braxton-Benjamin ] SIX years after Mikquel Torres was charged with having Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Mathematics and English papers before the 2008 examination was written, he was yesterday found not guilty of the two charges. Torres, of Gulf View, La Romaine who was 20 years old at the time, was on $1 million bail after he was charged by Inspector Gilbert Kennedy on May 22, 2008 with unlawfully procuring the CXC May/June 2008 Mathematics — Paper 2, and CXC May/June 2008 English A — Paper 2. Several different State attorneys prosecuted in the case over the years and on September 6, 2011, the trial against Torres began. Witnesses from the Caribbean Examination Council and the Ministry of Education, a Justice of the Peace and two police officers testified. Yesterday, this was overruled by Ramsumair-Hinds, but she found Torres not guilty of the offences as she said the prosecution had failed to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. Back in 2008, several teenagers were charged with similar offences and were taken before the court. These matters were all dismissed last year.
