Learn About New Mexicos Farmers Past and Present Free Program at Casa San Ysidro on August 9 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Family farms have always been important to New Mexico and Casa San Ysidros next free program focuses on Farmers Past and Present. On Saturday, August 9 from 1 - 4 p.m. visitors will have an opportunity to hear stories from some of New Mexicos Spanish Colonial farmers, visit with a present-day farmer in Corrales and learn about historic farming implements in the museums collection. At 1:30 p.m., author Linda Tigges will help us glimpse the lives of ordinary Spanish Colonial citizens when she shares stories from her new book, Spanish Colonial Lives: Documents from the Spanish Colonial Archives of New Mexico, 1705-1775. Mishaps of wayward soldiers, water disputes between farmers, and other daily challenges experienced by these early New Mexicans come to life through these documents. Ms. Tigges and Richard Salazar, who translated the documents into English, will hold a book sale and signing following their talk which is co-sponsored by the El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro Trail Association (CARTA). At 3 p.m., Sean Ludden, Farm Manager at ARCA Organics, will be speaking about his experience as a market farmer and seed saver and the challenges and opportunities of farming in a desert climate. Throughout the afternoon visitors may tour the historic adobe home and learn about the tools and furnishings necessary to early New Mexican farmers. Children may make a take-home-craft. Casa San Ysidro: The Gutiérrez/Minge House is owned by the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, with support from the Albuquerque Museum Foundation and in collaboration with the Village of Corrales, Sandoval County, and the State of New Mexico. Casa San Ysidro is located at 973 Old Church Road, Corrales. For more information visit cabq.gov/casasanysidro or call 311 locally. # # #
