Learn the potential impacts at Fort Belvoir of Army Force Reduction at a community listening session, Friday, Jan. 23, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Thurman Auditorium in Humphreys Hall, 5500 21st St. Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan, Military District of Washington Commanding General; Col. Michelle Mitchell, Belvoir Garrison Commander; and Headquarters, Department of the Army staff members invite everyone to the listening session, as part of the Armys overall analysis and community outreach program before force structure and stationing decisions are made. Army staff representatives will provide an overview of the Armys stationing decision process and community members, leaders and partners will have a chance to provide direct input and key facts they believe the Army should consider before decisions are made. The Budget Control Act of 2011 mandates the Army reduce its force while maintaining a strong National Defense Strategy. No decisions have been made at this time. The Army, however, anticipates all installations will be impacted, so attendance and participation is strongly encouraged. Information is available by calling 805-2034.
