Learned a little life lesson earlier this morning from offline - TopicsExpress

Learned a little life lesson earlier this morning from offline store computers and peoples reactions to the situation. Drove Micah into work at 5:00 AM, a sloppy sleet-snow mixture pelting my windshield, and hurried into Meijer on the way home to pick up milk, bread, eggs, and avocados. When I got to the self-scan registers along with half a dozen other people, we quickly realized that the computers were down. Frazzled store personnel were scurrying around trying to manually override the system while others contacted the powers-that-be for advice. Not needing to be anyplace at that moment other than my semi-warm house, I decided to wait it out and do some people watching. One woman immediately stormed off in a huff, muttering, I dont have time for this s...! leaving her donut holes behind. Others rolled their eyes and humphed loudly and dramatically so that everyone present could be aware of their level of inconvenience, while they tapped their feet impatiently. One man left a cartload of merchandise right there for someone else to deal with. The gentleman behind me, though, smiled and struck up a conversation, nothing profound, just commonplace pleasantries that broke the tension and connected us as fellow human beings. I was reminded that life is full of little choices, every day, and that most people are as happy as they make up their minds to be. Will I be someone today who is willing to adjust myself to what is, and not make everyone around me uncomfortable or anxious when things dont go as planned? Or will I grouse and complain and carry on about little things that dont really matter? Anyway, it was good food for thought to start the morning.
