Learning To Be Like Christ 1 Cor. 13:7 One of the incredible - TopicsExpress

Learning To Be Like Christ 1 Cor. 13:7 One of the incredible things about the Gospel is that it shapes people into what they were created to be. God loves you so much that He refuses to leave you in sin, but seeks to make you into a new creation through Jesus Christ. This process is often called sanctification, but it might also be called the life of discipleship, or learning to be like Christ. One of the most difficult aspects of growing into the likeness of Christ is learning to love as God loves. First Corinthians 13:7 offers a powerful description of godly love. In this passage, Scripture teaches that love “always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.” Reflect for a moment on this passage and consider how these characteristics of godly love differ from those sinful habits and attitudes which so often define human love. Love always protects. To truly protect someone, you must be willing to sacrifice yourself in order keep them safe. Christ loved you perfectly when He sacrificed Himself on the cross to redeem you from sin. Love always trusts .Trusting others as an act of love has nothing to do with being assured of their response to your love. Loving someone by trusting them means seeing them through the eyes of God, and loving them for no other reason than because God loves them. Love always hopes and perseveres. Hoping in love and persevering in love essentially describe the same attitude. Worldly love is visionless and weak. In contrast, godly love has eternal vision and unbreakable endurance. Christ loves you with a vision of what you will become through His grace, and promises to love you perfectly for all of eternity. Prayer for the Day: Today, thank God for loving you by sanctifying you. Pray that He will sanctify your love and enable you to love sacrificially … to trust in love, hope in love, and persevere in love.
