Leave it to Gwyneth Paltrow to come up with the annoying new phrase “conscious uncoupling” in describing her break-up with husband of 11 years, Chris Martin. Who knows what it means? And perhaps that alone is the reasoning behind such an obscure phrase. To divert bad news with a provocative question. I suspect its just new age gobbledygook to explain an age-old problem. Breakups have been going on for a long, long time and we don’t need Gwyneth Paltrow to define it a new way. As long as people get married (especially in today’s highly mobile culture), they will probably be divorced after a decade or so. That’s just the way it is, kids or not. So get used to it. Those that survive much longer together are the exception, not the rule.
