"Sue Austin also has a passion for deep sea diving - she just happens to use a wheelchair. In the TED Talk above you can hear how she repurposed her wheelchair to be able to dive in the ocean, and transformed preconceptions about disability in the process. Having been in a wheelchair for 16 years, Sue described the reactions she got from people on the street, who often treated her as being invisible. She said: “I realised scuba gear extends your range of activity in just the same way as a wheelchair does. But the associations attached to scuba gear are ones of excitement and adventure, completely different to people’s responses to the wheelchair.
