Leaving Davao (Dabaw) in a couple of hours. I must say that after - TopicsExpress

Leaving Davao (Dabaw) in a couple of hours. I must say that after only a couple of days diri (here), I have fallen in love with Mindanao! This is such a beautiful part of the Philippines that unfortunately very few Filipinos dare to visit. I will always remember the hospitality of the people here: ate yelling at the jeepney driver across the street to stop and wait for me, kuya conductor refunding my money because he gave me wrong directions, or the honorary mayor of a town giving me a lift to the bus terminal. The mixing of the Muslim and Christian religion in the Philippines is also a sight to behold, with colorful mosques and "Ed Mubarak" banners littering the streets alongside baroque Christian churches and the sounds of Christian music in the parks. Goodbye Mindanao - I will always remember you not as the terror prone region that I grew up believing, but rather as a region that I hope would someday come to define all of the Philippines: warm and tolerant.
