Lebanon Federal Credit Union Trivia: This month, Lebanon Federal Credit Union is celebrating its 45th anniversary. On June 3, 1969, several employees of the local ALCOA plant banded together and filed the “Organization Certificate” with the Bureau of Federal Credit Unions to form what would become known as the Aluminum Workers Federal Credit Union. On June 12, 1969 the director of the Bureau of Federal Credit Unions, Social Security Administration, Department of Health, Education and Welfare signed the approval and a credit union was born (Bureau of Federal Credit Unions ??? Congress would only form the NCUA on March 10, 1970). More credit union trivia... 80 years ago on June 26, 1934, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the Federal Credit Union Act into law (the FCU Act was part of his famous “New Deal” legislation), permitting credit unions to be formed across the United States – it was the birth of the US credit union movement!
