Lee Barney Westons status. about a minute ago XXXXX MUST READ XXXXX Respecting the Elderly, The forgotten community: Under the new condems policies older people with in our communities are being punished by austerity measures. There are so many people suffering because local authorities are selling out the most vulnerable and are being orientated to concentrate solely on profit for corporations. The reason I am writing this is because I want to make people aware of two situations that are happening within Leicester as I know other people with in different areas of Leicester and the uk will be suffering in silence with situations like this. Many elderly people do not use computers, so may find their experience gets overlooked. The first story is about a lady whom lived in a three bedroom property. She could not afford to pay the extra charges that the condems brought in through their new welfare system so she managed to house swap her council place. The only problem is this property needs repairs and her old three bedroom house had been customised to meet her needs. We contacted the Deputy mayor Andy Connelly and he said he would get the department he is head of to help her because the correspondence he had with his department was unsatisfactory. They came and looked at the property and no work has been carried out. This lady is so let down by her local council and she feels that enough is enough. Case two: A 73 year old widow has been without any heating or hot water for a month now. She contacted her energy suppliers and insurers with no success. We contacted the council general enquiries whom said that they dont run any more schemes to deal with to assist with situations such as these. It was explained that she dont have the money to replace the boiler. We are now contacting different charities to see if they can help. The reason for Councils are to ensure that the vulnerable are taking into account and their needs are met. Our local Council and the Condems are fast tracking the most cowardly agenda in which they are abandoning their constituents in the hope that we are too submissive and selfish to stop them. Only if we agree to come out of the woodwork can we create consequence for this betrayal of the elders in our community. Lets just hope we can find help before the weather really hits home. This situation brings shame to us all and I believe is the tip of the ice berg. People matter.
