Lee County School District DEBUNKS THE MYTH OF COMMON - TopicsExpress

Lee County School District DEBUNKS THE MYTH OF COMMON CORE Pull out your childrens District-provided text books - Amity Chandler, Lee County School Districts Director of Communications, tells us we are confused - There is No Common Core In Florida - Lee County schools do not teach Common Core. You are confused if you see that the title on those District-provided text books reads: Common Core. This years test, provided by the company, AIR, which will replace the FCAT this year, is specific to Florida and to the Florida Standards, Christy Kutz, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, assures us. That must be why we trusted and paid Utah millions to field test it for us, because Utah, and other states who may be administering this test, share so much in common with Florida. You can shut down those Stop Common Core Facebook pages and web pages, friends, and you can stop bothering the Board of Education by attending all those meetings now. (Sarcasm) Lee County School District has assured all of us that we have just been confused about this! Go back to helping your elementary students work to understand that crazy math, that is not CCSS, but Florida Standards math. Go back to watching your children squeeze in a soccer practice after school and dinner, but before homework and bedtime, because they are sitting for 6-1/2 to 7-1/2 hours straight in public school due to mandated remedial classes. Thank goodness the District is watching out for our children, right? Lee County School District is waging a war within our public schools and our community, through the use of our media and through technology, to spread untruths, half-truths, and incomplete statutes, in order to sway our community to continue the practice of using our children as workers to maintain a flawed testing system that determines funding and flawed teacher evaluations. Each of you has the power to stop this. Speak up. If there is nothing wrong with Common Core, why the big thrust in Florida to rebrand it? Tell your neighbors, friends, and family what our children are experiencing in public school today. Come to the Board meetings. Come to the School Board meeting Tuesday, September 9th at 5:05pm. Ask why the Lee County School District has exceeded its liabilities by $1,089,961,140.00 at fiscal year ending June 30, 2014? Could it be due to the multi-millions spent on the unfunded state mandated upgrades in broadband infrastructure/software/hardware required by the CCSS testing? Could it be due to the millions spent on the unfunded state mandated teacher education required by the CCSS/FSA? Could it be due to the millions spent on the unfunded state mandated purchase of new CCSS/FSA text books for our entire district? Could it be due to the multi-millions spent on the unfunded state mandated testing? Could it be due to the minor financial sanctions that our District will pay for refusing/ignoring the classroom size mandates - probably not. It is certainly not due to school improvement, arts, or sports. If the District can ignore classroom size mandates, they can refuse the mandates that are draining our District of the necessary funds to give our children a World Class Education. Speak up. https://youtube/watch?v=zRb8RJV9MvY&feature=youtu.be
