Lee Harvey Oswald expected acclaim. The Dallas Morning News ran - TopicsExpress

Lee Harvey Oswald expected acclaim. The Dallas Morning News ran vitriolic editorials and articles complaining about John Kennedys presidency. Texans added bitter voice. In that atmosphere, a guy like Oswald thought he would be an American hero for disposing of such a despised president. In the hours he lived after the shooting, Oswald was astounded by the public reaction, especially in Dallas. Today, we hear loud complaints about Barack Obama. I think we need to be careful not to overstate our hatred. Americans once had respect for people in high office, whether the regard was deserved, or not. LBJ once said a man would do almost anything to become president of the United States, but that once in office, he would not intentionally make a single mistake. I feel loyal to any president. A person willing to give his/her life to become a target for critics and even marksmen, has my admiration. I think we need to be careful what we say. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me, is a lie. Words can motivate. We need to monitor ours.
