Lee Zeldin Advances to ‘On the Radar’ New York Congressional Candidate Joins 35 Others in Taking First Step In NRCC’s ‘Young Guns’ Program WASHINGTON - Today, the National Republican Congressional Committee announced that Lee Zeldin has been elevated to ‘On the Radar’ in the NRCC’s ‘Young Guns’ program. The program will help to provide candidates and their campaigns the tools they need to run effective, successful and winning campaigns against their Democratic opponents. Originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Majority Whip Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Budget Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), the Young Guns program supports and mentors challenger and open-seat candidates in races across the country. Zeldin is running in New York’s First Congressional District. “I am confident that Lee Zeldin will be a successful and dedicated member of this program and that he will continue to work hard to reach the crucial campaign benchmarks that have been established ahead of the 2014 elections,” said NRCC Chairman Greg Walden. “Lee’s conservative principles and priorities provide a stark contrast to Barack Obama’s irresponsible agenda. New York’s hardworking families deserve better than skyrocketing health care costs, financial instability and mountains of debt on the backs of their families. I am certain that Lee Zeldin will be a strong contender this election cycle.” After becoming New York’s youngest lawyer at the time at age 23, Lee spent four years on Active Duty with the U.S. Army and served in different capacities including as a Military Intelligence Officer, Federal Prosecutor and Military Magistrate. In the summer of 2006, while assigned to the Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division, Lee deployed to Iraq with an infantry battalion of fellow paratroopers in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2010, Lee was elected to the New York State Senate where he successfully fought to repeal the MTA Payroll Tax for 80 percent of employers, worked to repeal the Saltwater fishing License Fee, and helped secured funding for the PFC Joseph Dwyer Program, a statewide program to help our returning veterans cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Lee is running against Tim Bishop, a partisan Democrat who has been under federal investigation for his role in a pay-for-play fundraising scheme.
