Lee wrote this - had to share. Thank you Mom - you still are such a wonderful role model for us all!! Grandma’s Gift By Lee Byrd I am mostly a normal kid living a normal life. I try hard in school, am in the band, and play sports. Baseball is my favorite sport. In fact, I was at baseball camp when my life turned upside down. It was July 9, 2014 at 11:30 am when I found out my grandmother died. We went to her house where I saw her cold, limp body. I decided then that was not how I would remember her. My grandmother taught me a lot by being a great example. She taught me that family is important, to be a good person, and to trust in God. This was the best kind of gift ever, better than any baseball bat or t-shirt. My grandmother taught me many things. One was to that family is important. One thing my grandmother did was go to my sports activities. She went to a lot of them instead of being with her friends. She would clear her day just to go to my game. This would make my day. It taught me how going to see someone can make their day and that family is important. Even though this is an important lesson, my grandma taught me much more. Grandma taught me to always be a good person, no matter what, by setting a good example. Earlier this summer, we were in Texas crossing the street in the parking garage at the airport. This guy decided to speed up towards us then slam on his brakes right before he hit my grandma. My mom was furious and started yelling at the guy. Grandma acted like nothing happened and told my mom to stop being mean. Also, Grandma always welcomed everyone in her house. A lot of times at holiday dinners she would have people there that we hardly knew. She thought everyone should be with someone on the holidays. She always said we are all God’s children so we are all related. Though this is a very important lesson that defines who I am, she taught me more. My grandmother also taught me to always trust in God. She went to church every Sunday and did a lot of things at the church. Whenever something bad happened, she would say not to worry, trust in God and it will be okay. She was right. She gave me a cross as a present and now I have a cross with her ashes in it. When I look at my cross with her ashes in it, even though I am sad, I trust God to keep her safe. She is one of the best angels that he will ever get. I have told you about my Grandma and the things she has taught me. Family is important, be a good person, and trust in God. This is how she lived her life. She always set good examples for us. These are the greatest gifts ever from the greatest Grandma ever.
