Leeton-Whitton midfielder Bryce OGarey has been cleared of an illegal tackle last weekend that resulted in a Wagga Tigers player being hospitalised. Waggas Nick McCormack received a ruptured kidney and broken ribs in the tackle at Robertson Oval. After reviewing video footage the Tigers cited O’Garey for an intentional illegal tackle. The AFL Riverina independent investigating officer reviewed the evidence provided by all parties, including the umpires. After reading all statements and watching the video, I regard this incident as an unfortunate accident, but not against the rules, the investigating officer said in a statement released by AFL Riverina. In particular, I note that the umpire clearly saw the incident and said there was no illegal play. Accordingly I find that Leeton(-Whitton) player O’Garey has no case to answer.
