Left out this morning with high expectations, only to be disappointed by the Rail Road Museum in Green Bay. I found their website last night and actually was looking forward to the visit. They have one of the Union Pacific Big Boy steam locomotives and a Pennsylvania GG 1 Electric locomotive. Thankfully these are in an enclosed building, but the lighting is horrible for photography, skylight just gives to much back lighting. As far as the condition of the engine, it is probably one of the better ones still in existence, but the cab of the engine was not up to the standards it should have been. The seats were nonexistent, nothing but the springs. None of the gauges, throttle lever, brake leaver or anything else was marked so as to inform curious young minds as to what or where they were. The museum was sponsoring a "WW II" reenactment and should have been prepared for an additional crowd. I had to dodge several areas around some of the exhibits because of an over abundance of wasp. The walkways in the covered shed were covered in dust, bird feathers, and bird droppings. Forgive me if I sound jaded but I have been to other Rail Museums, St. Louis, Mo. 3 trips, Union, Illinois 4 trips, Roanoke, Va. 2 trips and Spencer, NC. 6 or more trips, and have not felt this let down by any of these. The reenactors had set up their camps Friday night and were enjoying themselves had five camps set up, two American camps, two German camps and a solitary British camp. I would revisit thus museum in the future, I just hope they can address some of these short comings in the not so distant future.
