Left us on this day (Aug. 29) in 2011: David Honeyboy Edwards (congestive heart failure, age 96), one of the last surviving ’30s Delta blues greats & a last living link to the legendary Robert Johnson, with whom he shared the stage & was a close friend; he also performed with the likes of Big Joe Williams, Charley Patton, Johnny Shines & Tommy Johnson; he made relatively few recordings until his later years, when he experienced a resurgence in attention with releases on a variety of indie labels from the 1980s on; David published his autobiography The World Don’t Owe Me Nothin’ in 1997, with a companion CD released short afterwards; he continued to tour well into his 90s - in fact, on the day of his passing, at age 96, he had been scheduled to perform at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicagos Millennium Park…
