Left us on this day (Oct. 24) in 2012: American songwriter Bill Dees (cause undisclosed, age 73), best remembered for co-writing nearly 70 songs with rocknroll pioneer Roy Orbison, as well as penning songs recorded by the likes of Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Glen Campbell & Gene Pitney; Roys 1964 single Its Over was their first collaborative hit, reaching UK #1 & the US Top 10; their massive 1964 hit Oh, Pretty Woman (inspired by Roys wife, Claudette) followed, topping the charts in 22 countries; its success allowed Bill to quit his wharehouse job & tour as a guitarist in Roys band during a year that included two trips to Europe, a performance on The Ed Sullivan Show & appearances on UK TV with The Beatles & The Stones; in 2000, Bill recorded his own solo album, Saturday Night At The Movies…
