Leg Raises Leg raises are great for targeting stabilizing - TopicsExpress

Leg Raises Leg raises are great for targeting stabilizing muscles of the spine and pelvis - Specifically the iliopsoas (iliacus and psoas Major) which are the strongest of your hip Flexors muscles in combination with the rectus femoris, sartorius, and tensor fascia latae. They are active when standing, walking, and running. A common misconception is performing the movement to work your lower abs. Your abdominals are a group of continuous muscle fibers which run from the bottom trip of your pelvis to the center of your rib cage near your sternum. Your rectus abdominus is split only in nerve supply from left to right. There is no such thing as targeting your lower abs because they do not exist in this purpose. Your muscle contract with full effort or they dont contract all of ( all of nothing principle). One explanation as to this myth may be since the muscles attach to the femur from the lower spine, running parallel and behind the abdominal wall it may fee like your lower abs. Your abs play a role in this movement. They Isometrically stabilize the lumbar-pelvic-hip complex to province you with a stable foundation (upper body) while your hip Flexors generate the force needed to raise your lower extremities. In order to include this movement on your abs day, you need to bring your knees as close to your chess as possible creating flexion in the spine which is what happens when the rectus abdominus contracts isotonically (shortens/lengthens). Dont get wild with it and look like your a trapeze artist. Controlled and deliberate. Video to follow. Im very passionate about debunking this common misstep. Questions? Comments?
