I question if religion and theology could continue to pursue its ends if it did not have convincing ways to enforce faith. By enforce faith I mean by example, by influence, by bribery, aesthetically, by fabricating myths and presenting tales as if they were fact. Without these, what would man have upon which to believe or pretend to believe? Of course these forms of faith can be easilly transmitted, simply, buy convincing argument, true or not.
