Legislative Press Pool (LEGISPOL) Press Release (Monrovia, Liberia September 23, 2014) The Legislative Press Pool wishes to inform the public and media institutions concerning the re-launching of the legislative forum or lecture series on September 29, 2014 at the Capitol Building. LEGISPOL members are reporters who cover activities at the first branch of the Liberian government (Legislature). The auxiliary group of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) wants all accredited local and international media outlets to turn out in their numbers for the remarkable gathered that will bring lawmakers and civil society actors together in the joint chamber of the Legislature. LEGISPOL cautions that every preventive measure will be taken into consideration against the deadly Ebola Virus before any attendee enters the Capitol Building and also in the joint chamber where the forum will be held. The lecture series will be held under the theme “Legislative Openness in Post Conflict Democracy and Press Union of Liberia (PUL) President Kamara Abdullah Kamara will serve as one of the panelists at the gathering. LEGISPOL and its partner (Institute For Research and Democratic Development) formerly Liberia Democratic Institute (LDI) believe that legislative openness plays good role in building public trust and improving Liberia’s governance process. The two institutions also frowned on the continuous hosting of executive or close door sessions at the Capitol Building by members of the 53rd National Legislature that do not have any security implication on Liberia’s fragile peace and emerging democracy. In a related development, the Institute of Research and Democratic Development along with Legislative Press Pool will be hosting a one day lecture series in observance of the global legislative openness week on Wednesday, September 24 this year at IREDD’s office on 16th Street in Monrovia.
