Legislator Norma Gonsalves joined Extension personnel at the former CCE-NC horticultural facility at Eisenhower Park in 2010 to commend Nassau Master Gardener volunteers for growing produce to give away to Nassau residents who would benefit from them through the Inn at Hempstead. CCE-NC continues its grow it to give it away program today from the Cornell Horticultural Center and Demonstration/Community Gardens at East Meadow Farm at 832 Merrick Avenue in East Meadow, NY. Leg. Gonsalves was instrumental in preserving the open space in East Meadow, along with other key areas, including part of the Hempstead Plains, a critical Long Island environmental treasure and threatened ecosystem.
