Leigh White added 3 new photos. FULLERTON LIFE ON THE STREETS: THE COWBOY. Id like to take some time to thank Curtis Gamble for creating the iconic Kelly Thomas change 4 justice sign. Its been an iconic image at Kellys corner since the beginning I think. Every time when Ive been there unloading supplies for the homeless, people look at that sign and know this is where it all went down. Some people ask me what its about. And I am happy to engage in positive dialogue about Kelly with everyone. Homeless people ask. People going to the restaurants or the trains ask. Some people just look at it and move on. Little kids always look at. Its been and continues to be an important visual reminder of who Kelly was - the sweet, good looking, gentle guy just trying to make it through life like the rest of us. Cowboy Kelly is one of my favorite images of Kelly. It stands for a lot of things that I like. Cowboys are strong yet gentle, in tune with nature, and have a confident swagger mixed with a handsome face, an embrace of frontiers and finding new paths, being self motivated, etc. That sign greets everyone who is at the Fullerton Transportation Center. It greets me too, and I am always glad to see it. Makes me feel less alone or afraid when I am there. Ive heard that often people rip, cut or try to tear down that sign. Curtis Gamble always has plenty of new cowboy Kelly signs to put up and he does. I love Curtis tenacity. Thank you Curtis for keeping Kellys face there for us at that important corner, that unbelievable place of fate and love and hurt, of family and humanity, to remain steadfast with us in this most important journey to justice and awareness, to a better world for everyone.
