Lekoelea: Shakes Squad Has No Balance This week, enterprising Orlando Pirates legend Steve ‘Chippa’ Lekoelea shares his thoughts on the 2015 CAF African Cup of Nations qualifier where Bafana Bafana will take on Sudan in Khartoum. The dribbling wizard also expresses his sentiments at newly appointed Bafana skipper, Senzo Meyiwa, and addresses the growing trend of supporters booing players. #OnBafanaBafanaVsSudan Little is known about Sudan which will make it tricky for Bafana Bafana to play against them. Having looked at the squad, I must say I don’t quite see the balance in the team. I pleased to see Andile Jali in the midfield, he is one of our best midfielders in country and he will give us the added steel we need to compete. But I must be honest and comment on the lack of international experience in that squad. I know Shakes wants to introduce younger players in the National set-up but that has to be a gradual process. Introducing all the local players too quickly can do more harm than good. Having said that, all the best to Bafana tonight! #OnSenzoMeyiwaAsCaptain I’m happy for Senzo and it has been a long time coming. This is another way for himself to show his worth. We have all seen his leadership qualities at Pirates. He is a focused young man who puts everything into his game. I know he has been learning from Itumeleng Khune and it’s clearly shows if Shakes trusts him with the Captain’s armband. #OnFansBooingPlayersAthome This is a growing trend that seems to be creeping into our game more and more. Even at national level we witnessed how some sections of the supporters were booing the national team when we played Brazil earlier this year. At club level certain players have been targeted by the ‘boo boys’. This is feature which does not reflect very highly on our game. If fans only knew the frustration and sadness that booing causes to a player maybe they would stop. True supporters get behind their players and teams in good and bad time….If teams win all the time then they wouldn’t need supporters would they? People must understand what the word support means before they call themselves supporters. #Bucs_Lady_Cha_MrsMATLABA
