Lemtrada Approval and the facts!! Lemtrada-This new drug was approved by the FDA on 11-14-14. I only heard about from a fellow MSer. I looked into it and I must say I was scared. They antibodies are made from animal DNA. It can lower blood cells to fight infection and help clot blood. You need to avoid being near people who are sick or have an infection. Here are all the serious/ fatal side effects. Fever, cough, sweating, tired feeling, weakness, confussion, easy brushing or bleeding( nose or gums), feeling light headed, short of breathe, rapid heart rate, pale or yellow skin and dark colored urine. OK...I have 95% of these symptoms right now! Oh but these are not the only side effects. 24- common side effects 10- less common effects 23- incidence not determined 4- more common side effects 12- less common side effects 8 - rare side effects The medications goal is to hopefully stop the progression of your MS where it is. It WILL not make it get any better. I can only speak for myself and maybe its because I can still walk and drive. I feel this medication is just too risky simply not worth the risk. Its like a person in stage 4 cancer grasping at another treatment rather then excepting. Us MSers know whats in our futures. I just hate when drug companies prey on the desperate for a glimpse of a recovery. Anyone thinking of taking this medication you cant just go to your normal doctor. Only a specialist in this treatment can preform this. You also have to go through a few steps in order to get the treatment. Please think and be careful my fellow brother and sisters.
