Lent Devotional: Monday March 10th: Take Care Reading: Deuteronomy 6:10-17 “Take care that you do not forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt.” Moses was a canny man. He knew that the threat to the faith of Israel would not come in the hard times in the desert, when they depended on God for direction, food and water. No. The danger time would be when Israel settled in the promised land, “a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant, … when you eat and are satisfied.” (Deut 6:10-11). In other words, the threat would come when people felt secure without God. It is in those times we need to be reminded to “remember.” In church we have created a “Wall of Thanks” where we can remember and share what God has done for us. I hope that in seeing that wall those in tough times and easy times will both be encouraged to trust God more; remember and rejoice. Prayer: God, I confess that far too often I do not praise you as the source of every good gift. Help me to remember your love for me, whatever my circumstances in life.
