Lenten Devotions Friday March 7 Scripture: Psalm 108:6 Give victory with your right hand, and answer me, so that those whom you love may be rescued. Thoughts Who do you cry out to for help? Where do you turn in times of stress and need? Wounded soldiers on the battlefield, some of the toughest men and women trained for combat, have been known to cry out for their mothers. When trouble strikes, our thoughts often return to those first people who cared for us. Or maybe you call a friend who listens to your troubles. Or maybe your spouse or neighbor who defends you when the world is out to get you. Maybe those are the people to whom you cry. Martin Luther, in his own battles, would often cry out: “I am baptized!” For him, baptism summed up all of the promises of God’s help in times of trouble. Through the people in our lives, but most of all through His Son and through promises shared in water with the Word, God is our help when trouble strikes. Talking Together or Pondering Alone Who is the first person you want to call when trouble strikes? Seven Word Prayer May Your victory over trouble be mine. AMEN. By David C. Drebes, pastor of Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Basye/Orkney Springs Virginia.
