Len— The Colorado River Delta used to stretch over two million acres, with vast wetlands and waterways extending from the southwestern tip of the U.S. to the Gulf of California in Mexico. But now the river has been dammed and diverted so many times that it doesn’t even reach the ocean anymore—it dries up on the U.S.-Mexico border. Until this year. On May 14, 2014, the Colorado River flowed all the way to the sea for the first time since 1998, as part of a “pulse flow” designed to mimic the kind of periodic floods that naturally inundated the Colorado River Delta for eons, keeping the river corridor healthy by spreading seeds of native vegetation and creating conditions in which those native seedlings could thrive. Weve put together a 1-minute video with scenes from that historic day—narrated with the message that you and 35,000 other EDF members sent to Mexican and U.S. officials, thanking them for working together to restore the delta. Check it out - click the thumbnail below to watch the video and see the natural beauty and human joy that your advocacy has wrought !
