Leo had a birthday adventure! He likes to avoid the big - TopicsExpress

Leo had a birthday adventure! He likes to avoid the big interstates, so he decides to try the Blue Ridge Mountain Highway... which we have renamed the Holy *Crap* Highway! Not really a lot of fun in an RV, towing a car! Dips and tight turns, shrouded in fog which actually turned out to be clouds, I think. Down to 5 mph, hugging the yellow center line so as not to tumble down a cliff. After about 3 hours, we have gone 25 miles! And we are sharing the road with folks on bicycles and motorcycles! Our objective for tonight was to reach Roanoke, VA, which at this rate will take us a few days!!! We decide, we need to get off Holy *Crap* Hwy, which isnt like, oh lets get off at the next exit. We still have to endure center-line hugging curves for a few more miles. We finally find a drop-down hwy, which has even more cut-backs and steep grades than the Blue Ridge. On some of the turns, we can look out the window and see our little tow car! We finally make it to Marion, NC... just 25 miles or so down the interstate from where we started!!! So, Leo has enjoyed his birthday as much as he can stand at this point and we decide to stay the night in Statesville, NC. But at least, the sun is shining, we cooled off in a lovely campground swimming pool and tomorrow - we may even make it out of the state of North Carolina... not that NC is a bad place. It is, in fact, lovely AND we have finally made it into the Eastern time zone!
