Please note that the trip requires an early deposit by October 31, 2014 and that the final payment is due by December 20, 2014. Guided Hiking in Death Valley National Park with a Night in Las Vegas! Sunday, February 22, 2015 to Saturday, February 28, 2015 Escape the winter to a week of hiking in the sunshine and comfortable warmth (avg 72 degrees F) of amazing Death Valley National Park in California! One of America’s most surreal landscapes, Death Valley inspires superlatives: it is our largest national park outside Alaska, the lowest spot in North America, and one of the driest environments on Earth. Despite its fearsome name, it is full of surprising attractions. Our comfortable lodging at the historic Furnace Creek Ranch is a garden oasis with a spring-fed pool. From there we travel daily into an alien world of color-drenched sunsets, remote canyons, undulating dunes, and ethereal rock formations. Dante’s View, Artist’s Palette, and Golden Canyons are aptly named fantastic badlands that recall science-fiction movies. We will trace the narrow recesses of Mosaic Canyon and visit Scotty’s Castle, a flamboyant Spanish-Mediterranean mansion built in the Roaring Twenties. We will walk the rim of the massive volcanic Ubehebe Crater, a half-mile wide and 600-feet deep, trek across towering sand dunes at Mesquite Flat, and explore Badwater Salt Flats, a massive expanse 282 feet below sea level. Various hiking options are offered each day and several evening programs are planned. We will be led each day by the instructors and naturalists of the Death Valley Natural History Association. We’ll celebrate the end of our adventure with an overnight stay among the bright lights of Las Vegas!
