Leonard Wood joins us at the next Curtis Turner event, Blue Ridge Racers Reunion, for the Autograph Session, 10am -12 pm on March 22, at The Virginia Museum of Transportation !! Here is some info about Leonard Wood from the NASCAR Hall of Fame info: NASCAR Hall of Famer, Leonard Wood Leonard Wood was born Sept 22, 1934, in Stuart, VA where he still lives. Innovator and inventor are two words that can be used to describe the 2013 NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee, but the close-knit Wood family prefers to identify him as the heart and backbone of the famous wood Brothers Racing Team that has set records in the NASCAR premier series for more than six decades. Leonards phenomenal understanding of mechanics led the Wood Brothers to numerous records, including 94 victories (14 of those at Daytona International Speedway) and 117 poles during his tenure. Leonards accomplishments include developing a flow bench using a vacuum cleaners, increasing tire wear by lengthening the right-front spindle, making innovative engine templates for parts and pieces, cooling his first engine dynamometer with water from a nearby river and creating a lightweight jack and gravity-based fuel tank that resulting in record-breaking pit stops not only in stock car racing but the Indy 500 as well. The Wood Brothers lightning-fast pit stops became legendary and ushered in a new era on pit road, all thanks to Leonard Wood. Leonard was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in February 2013.
