Les and I attended an open house in our municipality this past - TopicsExpress

Les and I attended an open house in our municipality this past week. The purpose of the open house was to give the community residents an opportunity to view and discuss plans to build a water reservoir below us which will channel storm water run off and mange said water. The young man who was speaking kept referring to the historical use of this land as primarily agricultural. Twice I interrupted him to say No, historically it has been a marsh. The first time he smiled....in a condescending manner. The second time he was clearly uncomfortable.....and said that for nearly 200 years it had been under agricultural usage. I suggested marshes are important links to keeping balance in nature....to which he spouted facts and figures on amounts of metals and contaminants that marshes accumulate...blah. blah. blah..... what I am trying to say here really is....when does our non-native history trump history prior to us coming here....fencing land, creating boundaries and saying...there, now this is mine...and I need a pretty lawn with no weeds...and we must grow real food and not allow natures foods to take up this valuable agricultural land. We and our ways....makes me sick...... and truth be known....its making you sick too.....my rant.....
