Lesson 3: We are a conditioned people We have been conditioned by many things and many people since the day we are born. Especially in the country of Singapore where there is always a ‘fixed system’ for every single thing. We were taught to follow, not to be too risky and always look for something stable to rely on. Our family can limit us, if we believe that if no one has done it before in the family, it is impossible for myself to do so. I therefore should choose to motivate myself that I can be better, more successful and able to achieve much more then what has already been achieved by the people in my family. I must choose to believe that I can succeed. Many times my family members would encourage me to quit this current career because relatives in the clan has tried and failed in the business. I choose to believe that I’m different and I will be able to make this business work. Our environment can also condition us, making us mediocre and average. Successful people did not become the way they are because they were the lucky few who were chosen, it is more likely that they chose to be different and overcame the limitation in the environment that they are in. I must understand that any conditioning created by the mind of man can be reversed or recreated. Mistakes and failures can also condition us to withdraw and run away from situations, immobilising us to make any progress. My attitude will ultimately decide if my failure will strengthen or destroy me. If making 20 calls a day result in zero appointment, and I choose to quit. No appointments will ever happen. But I’m sure if I choose to ignore the temporary defeat and keep on calling day after day, the appointments will have to happen. My attitude will determine my altitude.
