Lesson 3: We are a conditioned people Your Family Heritage More often than not one would think that how a person would behaved has got to do with his family genes. It is family influence who work conditioning on us, be it a positive or a negative type. Therefore it is important to find out how weve acquired the negative type of conditioning such that we are able to unlearn them the same way we learn it. Environment and Institutions Another factor that could shape the way people are conditioned is the environment that they are in. For example, a mischievous child may always be condemned by teachers with their negative words and behaviour. Growing up with this type of negative treatments for a prolonged period of time, this child may slowly think that he is not a useful person and hence go down the wrong path despite the fact that he may have hidden talent to begin with. Mistakes and Failures These two factors form part and parcels in our lives. Without mistakes, one would never grow. However, it is the positive attitude that constitute to whether the person learns from the mistake or to dwell on his mistake and never learn. Learning from mistakes would mean to do self reflections and ask questions to understand how did the mistakes happen and what can be done to avoid it from happening again.
