Lesson Learnt! DO NOT use the Castrol book or take the advice of Repco & Supercheap when doing a car service. All suggested fully synthetic 0w-40 engine oil and ATF III. Started noticing the car slipping in gears at times and more so a slight pinging at higher rpms at gear shifts and car using a tad more fuel. Scan tool reveals nothing, new plugs and leads, puzzled and mechanic advises its a needle in the hay stack situation and process of elimination, could get very expensive very quick. So just deal with it and gets no worse. Few months go by and next service comes along and this time looked at the cars book, wait up. Book suggests for out temp zone 20w-50 for engine oil and ATF IV, ATF IV, WTF? Nobody makes an ATF IV, as they are all deemed backward compatible I opted for ATF VI. So i service the car and change all the fluids. Car purrs like a kitten again, sharp, snapping gears with zero slip, absolutely zero pinging and even the brake pedal feels a touch firmer. Cant belive transmission fluid can make that much difference and effect so many different aspects of the car.
