Lesson: Once Saved Always Saved False Doctrine Many times while visiting pal talk rooms, I will run into those that teach once saved always saved. This is totally false doctrine and is very dangerous to believe. With the help of the Lord I would like to write this lesson, so people will know the truth. I will give several scriptures to prove once saved always saved is not biblical. 2Timothy 4:3-4 for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. Here the Bible said there was going to be a time that they would not endure sound doctrine, and they shall turn away their ears from the truth. To turn away their ears from the truth must mean at one time they knew the truth. If you were never in truth, would be impossible to turn away from it. Also said the time will come they would not endure sound doctrine, indicating they did at one time. Matthew 24:12-13 and because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Here Jesus said the love of many shall wax cold, because iniquity was going to abound. Jesus also said he that endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. If a person is once saved and always saved, he wouldnt have to endure anything to be saved. Think about that for a moment. Why would Jesus make a statement like this? After all according to the false teachings of the world, once a person is saved they have eternal security. Jesus used the word (BUT) he that endure unto the end. 1Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. The Apostle Paul said he was keeping his body under subjection, because he didnt want to preach to others while he would be a castaway. Paul realized it was important for him to make heaven and that preaching alone was not getting him there. Some have said this word castaway didnt mean he meant losing his salvation, but I believe that is exactly what Paul was talking about. If being a castaway wasnt about his soul or salvation, than I wonder what it was. Plus why was the Apostle Paul worried about keeping his body under subjection if once saved always saved? Revelation 2:1-5 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my names sake hast labored, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. Notice what Jesus said about this church in Ephesus. I know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: hast borne, and hast patience, and for my names sake hast labored, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. This was a good church, except for one thing, THEY LEFT THEIR FIRST LOVE. I have often wondered about that, how they could do so much and yet lose their first love. Here is what I believe. I believe in our walk with the Lord we go to church because it’s Sunday, pray because we should, and even sing Christian songs because everyone else is. However there is the lack of love we once had. We find ourselves doing things because of routine rather than a real love for the Lord. Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. I must ask the question, if once saved always saved was true, and then why did this church have to do these things? 1. Remember from whence they fell. 2. Repent. 3. Do their first works over. People that preach eternal security say you cant fall from grace, but Jesus said remember therefore from WHENCE THOU ART FALLEN. Jesus even warned he would remove their candlestick if they didnt do what he commanded them. Now concerning those that preach you cant fall from grace, I want to give these next scriptures. Galatians 5:1-4 stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. Remember the Apostle Paul is writing letters to the church. He said Christ hath made you free, and for us not to entangle ourselves again with the yoke of bondage. Please notice verse four very carefully. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law, YE ARE FALLEN FROM GRACE, and does that doesnt sound to me once saved always saved amen? Galatian 5:7-8 ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. Ye did run well, who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? Can a person be saved without obeying Gods word? Jesus said if you love me, you will keep my commandments. If you dont keep his word, than you dont love him because we must keep his commandments. Can a person make heaven without loving the Lord? Remember Paul is talking to the church and not sinners. Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? Again Paul is telling the Galatians, that they are in error or sin now. He is asking the question who hath bewitched you not to obey the truth. We can get to the point that we can fall from Gods love, grace, and truth. Final scripture and thought: Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. We are commanded by his word to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. As I showed many places in the word of God we can fall from grace. Its possible to do many things recorded in the word, and still not be saved. We can get comfortable in our worship and yet fall from loving him. The Apostle Paul was afraid of being a castaway. He wrote almost half the New Testament. Dont be confused by the false teaching of once saved always saved. The devil would like you to believe that so you will lose your soul and salvation. Endure to the end and you will be saved. God bless you and thanks for reading the lesson.
