Lesson One for today: If it is too good to be true, it is. Check - TopicsExpress

Lesson One for today: If it is too good to be true, it is. Check before you send the check! I havent notified everyone yet but we have sold our house. We went through the usual method of using a realtor and so forth. Today, a couple came to our door and asked if we were the ones renting our house. It turns out that someone posted our address on a popular real estate website with a sob story and that it was for rent. When contacted, the people were told to send $1800 before 6:00 tonight to lock it up. These people checked first, thankfully. We live in a world where people trust and many untrustworthy people take advantage of that fact. Check out anything that sounds too good to be true or even if it sounds real. Otherwise, you are the victim of a crime that is virtually impossible to resolve. Lesson Two (free for my friends only): Just because it is on the internet doesnt make it a fact. We are used to trusting newspapers and magazines because they are published by reputable people with an address. But honestly, if it is on the internet, you do not have a clue who posted it or for what reason. Trust what you see there very cautiously. This includes things for sale, news articles, and almost everything else. How many articles have you read and shared with others only to find out later that they were scams or frauds. The internet ought to be safe and reliable but it isnt. Let the user beware.
