Lesson learned: check yer oil dummy. 5,000 (ish) miles and 6+ months ago I took my car to VW for an oil change/service. Getting ready to go I reiterated the question about synthetic... Kinda assumed since it is in fact VW factory required. I got the deer in the headlights look. Oops. So they drain the oil pan of dead dinosaur and replaced with 6.2 liters of synthetic goodness per the manual. I take off and go my happy way, driving spiritedly and I do a couple road trips with the engine at highway speed for some time. Coming back from Va, I had to add a little coolant. Been home a couple days and I am getting gas and I pop the hood and check coolant. I dont watch the oil in the R32 like I do the scirocco because it doesnt leak. Checked oil and it was high... Way high. They failed to drain the (new) oil filter when they put dead dinos in the first time. Why would they? It was a brand new filter. So I was 6.2 liters plus volume of the oil filter for 5k+ miles Crrrap! Good news is VW is taking ownership and its in my record with them if something goes wrong.
