Lesson of the Day : do not assume your patrons have common - TopicsExpress

Lesson of the Day : do not assume your patrons have common knowledge of old folksongs/rhymes etc. This morning I sang The Lady With the Alligator Purse (with props) and got blank stares from patrons and kids alike at the end. They did not know the song had ended. I asked a few parents afterwards and NO ONE knew the song beforehand. This was a fairly well-educated, middle-class, mostly white crowd. I found it odd. Anyone else ever have this happen in some fashion?
